A Season For Non Violence ~ Carry The Vision - December 12, 2005

A Season for Nonviolence, January 30 - April 4, is a national 64-day educational, media, and grassroots campaign dedicated to demonstrating that nonviolence is a powerful way to heal, transform, and empower our lives and our communities. Inspired by the 50th and 30th memorial anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., this international event honors their vision for an empowered, nonviolent world.

Get involved in a Season for Nonviolence
There are many ways that you can get involved with a Season for Nonviolence.

The greatest and simplest way to begin is by raising awareness of nonviolent principles in your own life. To get involved on a larger scale start by reading our Season for Nonviolence General Report. You could start your own task force or join an existing task force in your area. To find out about existing task forces in your area please contact Project Director, Barbara Fields snv@agnt.org.

A Simple Project Requiring Only Basic Resources

You can participate in a Season for Nonviolence by adopting the 64 Ways & Days Campaign. For each day during the Season, a total of 64, a certain aspect of nonviolence is observed. You can implement these in your local schools, e.g. have each day read over the loudspeaker, at work, at local community places of worship, just about anywhere that will help to increase the awareness of nonviolence. See an example of the 64 Ways & Days. You can use this example or create your own. In addition, our Los Angeles Season for Nonviolence task force has produced professional posters displaying the 64 Ways & Days as well as an in-depth curriculum for schools based on the 64 Ways & Days campaign. This curriculum has already been implemented in a number of schools across the country. If you are interested in ordering their 64 Ways to Practice Nonviolence Curriculum and Resource Guide, or a 64 Ways & Days poster, visit their web site at www.nonviolenceworks.com.

If you are looking for guidelines and ideas to start your own task force, contact headquarters, or communicate with other task force leaders around the country.
